Bakzak is a backpack made out of synthetic fibre. The idea emerged when I got inspired during my internship at Studio Kortmann & Powerboat in Rotterdam. I was eager to learn how to use a sewing machine and needed a new goal to teach myself. Thanks to Marieke Van Gool I got the chance to experiment with all different sorts of textiles and leather which could be used in my new project.
After a while Bakzak was created because of the unconscious effects the city of Rotterdam had on me during this period. The shape, material and rigidity, to me, refer to the typical features of the Dutch people living there.
